Devotional: Bearing much fruit

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit”

John 15:5

MESSAGE:

Jesus makes a very clear distinction between the vine and the branch…

He is the vine; we are the branches.

The two are joined but not one.

Just like you and a family member are bonded.

There is a blood, legal or emotional connection.

They could not flourish and grow without you being you.

You may or may not think you do very much but just think…

If you withdrew from your family it could cause you to slowly wither and die.

Let’s not dwell there.

You are precious, you are SO valuable.

You may not always know it or feel it, but your presence is life giving.

As we draw from the Holy Spirit and allow Him to flow through us, we flow His love and life into our family and workplaces.

Keep connected – upwards, downwards and outwards and bear much fruit.

POINT TO PONDER

Cut off the flow of sap to the branch and it slowly withers and dies. How is your sap flowing?

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,

You give life, hope, energy, strength, wisdom, and power for us to love every single day and breathe every single breath. Thank you for reminding me how precious I am to you, for my family and to those around me. I’m sorry for the times I focus on my failings rather than the blessing I bring to those around me. Forgive me for my self-centredness and allow me to be free in loving them perfectly imperfectly. I ask you to bear much fruit through me, and give me the patience to wait for the right season to see it. Thank you Jesus.  - Amen.
