Devotional - In Weakness We Are Strong image

“I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me…For when I am weak, then I am strong” -2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Message:

If you allow yourself to be honest -

How weak do you sometimes feel?

How alone do you get?

How tired are you of the ongoing daily struggle of the same behaviours?

Paul knew what it was to have something that the Lord didn’t remove, or stop – whatever it was.

I wonder who he had around to help him through.

Sometimes we cry out for the Lord to completely heal our families or stop everything that we don’t like. We really do want him to make everything better like we think the very best dad would do.

But that’s more childish faith rather than childlike isn’t it?

In this world He won’t and He can’t – not because He doesn’t have the power to, but because He’s working towards the end goal.

SO

There are two ways forward here

  1. Allow the strength of Christ in you to hold you up and make you strong.

Strong to endure, strong to reach out, strong to help others, strong to find solutions, strong to press on.

and

2. Allow those whom God has connected you with to carry you, support you, cheer you on, equip and help you how to make life that bit better.

One recent testimony from the Sensory Super System® was:

“Our daughter was very unpredictable. At the end of the Pre School session, she would have huge outbursts . She would flail, hit, kick, run off. I didn't understand why. I found it terribly upsetting and would have to prepare myself for collection time. I never knew how she would be or how to safely handle it. I felt I was failing her and her 'poor behaviour' was my fault. I felt judged by others and didn't know where to turn. We felt isolated and found it difficult to go out and attend parties, activities or events as her outburst were so unpredictable and uncontrolled. She couldn't sleep. It took hours of screaming and fighting before she would finally exhaust herself and sleep. This was short lived; we'd often find her wide awake appearing in our room fully dressed in the early hours. We could get her back to sleep but often the day started at 3 or 4 am. She was exhausted and so were we. We were barely functioning. Our family life was significantly impacted. We couldn't go out in the evening as she wouldn't settle for a babysitter. We also couldn't risk not getting the sleep when we could. I had read so much around the area of SPD but I couldn't make it fit. The coaching sessions with Anne Laure were so powerful to help connect the dots. I started to read her triggers and behaviours, so I could plan accordingly. We have been delighted at the progress she has made this year. We all have a greater understanding and empathy. We have powerful strategies to help her regulate and sensory calming tools for when we are in the midst of a meltdown. Anne Laure gave her a voice and has had huge impact on our families physical and mental wellbeing. We have a greater connection as a family. We can plan trips out and most importantly, we sleep!”

Point to ponder:

How much are you enduring on your own because you think this is more Godly?

We are serious in Christian Sensory Support about genuinely coming alongside you – to hold your arms up – to pray with you – to be a listening ear – to find practical steps forward – to change lives.

If it didn’t work, or if we didn’t care, we wouldn’t do it.

But it does, and we have a heart to help God’s people.

It’s hard to hear of families wishing they’d heard about us and joined us sooner.

Prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, you are the source of all strength, and power and goodness and mercy and grace. All good things come from you.  Praise your Holy name. Fill me with your strength for today, and confirm in me if this is the right time to receive the help that is offered”.
